Preventive dental care is more valuable than any treatment can be, especially when it comes to the effects of dental plaque and tartar. At Peak Dental, or Irmo dentist will work as your partner in maintaining the well-being of your teeth and gums.
As vital as it is for you to visit our office twice per year, if you don’t take good care of your own oral wellness the rest of the year, you cannot expect the kind of results that you really want. A nutritious diet that includes a limited amount of sugar is an excellent start. Brushing twice per day, first thing in the morning and last thing before bed, along with a daily vigorous flossing combine to do an excellent job of removing plaque. Some, though, can manage to escape the reach of your home oral hygiene by hiding in gum pockets. Eventually, that plaque will harden into tartar, after which there is no effective way to eliminate it other than a professional teeth cleaning. That same process will also stop the progress of early stage gum disease (gingivitis), and reverse any of its effects. If gum disease is allowed to continue unhindered, the inevitable result is that it reaches the advanced stage of periodontitis, which brings with it severe symptoms including receding gums, persistent bad breath, erosion of gum and bone tissue, and possibly even tooth loss. Our Irmo dentist will also be able to find any cavities while they’re still small, with the help of x-rays. A filling placed in a timely fashion can prevent a root canal treatment or a tooth extraction down the road, along with the complications and costs of each.
The good news is that just by contacting us to book an appointment with our Irmo dentist for your twice-yearly exam and cleaning, you can make the future look a lot brighter regarding your oral health.

If you are looking for a dental practice that encourages preventive dental care, then you will want to become familiar with our dental practice, Peak Dental. Our top-notch Irmo dentist, Dr. Gretchen Pawloski Yarborough, is a dedicated dentist who wants to make sure that her patients’ teeth and mouths remain as healthy as possible.
The two most important items to preventive dental care, after following a great at home brushing and flossing regimen, is to come into our dental practice for periodic dental exams and teeth cleanings. Our Irmo dentist will let you know how often you should have these services performed based on your current oral health, any dental problems you may have, gum health, and any medical conditions you may have, as well. Our dental exams are very thorough and will make sure that your teeth, gums, and entire mouth are healthy. X-rays will be taken to make sure that there are no problems developing between teeth or below the gum line. Your gums will be measured at each dental exam to make sure that any signs of inflammation are found, so they can be treated. If our dentist finds that your gums are inflamed, and you have gingivitis – a common precursor of gum disease – our dentist will probably recommend that you have several regular dental cleanings over coming months to get your gums back to good health. During our dental exams, your Mouthful also be thoroughly evaluated for any signs of oral cancer. If you suffer with TMJ or teeth grinding, our dentist can provide you with a night guard that will keep teeth from cracking or becoming otherwise damaged while you sleep. We also provide fluoride treatments to keep your teeth resistant to dental decay.
